This necklace was made for the Elements/Elemental/Weather contest over at :icondigital-artisans:

You can find more details here: [link]

The second I read the title, I knew what I wanted to use...:) I had actually purchased the centerpiece for this quite some time ago...it had initially talked to me, but once it arrived, it sort of just sat there...*lol*

Well, it might as well have been glowing when I went to see what I could use that went with the theme! I was drawn right to it!

The center piece for this deceptively simple and elegant necklace is a gorgeous donut of rutillated Pineapple Quartz. I normally don't buy gemstones that are man-made, but it was just too pretty not to get. Rutillation refers to the sharp linear inclusions throughout the stones. It's quite large at 35mm in diameter but the clarity still shows it off as delicate.

Hanging from the thin sterling silver chains are some beautifully bright aqua amazonite faceted briolettes. I have been told that it is possible that the color has been enhanced, however, I have seen amazonite this bright before and I feel that the little bit of gold would have turned an odd color had the stones been dyed or color enhanced.

The necklace is actually a 'fake' lariat. You can't remove the amazonite from the quartz. That's why I provided a toggle...:) The quartz still moves freely along the length of the thin chains, though.

About the Contest:
The idea was to create something that was representational of either the Elements, Elementals or the Weather.

Sun Shower represents both a weather phenomena and the elements of fire and water.

I'm sure not everyone has this happen weather-wise in Spring, but it happens quite often in and around Montreal.

What happens is that the Sun is out in full shine with only a few clouds, but a sudden little blast of rain will just pour down out of nowhere and be gone as quick as it came. The drops like playing the 'Guess which cloud dropped me' game...:) The beautiful rainbows that come from this little weather oddity are stunning in their clarity and color.

So the quartz represents the Sun and the amazonite represents those rain drops falling from the almost cloudless sky with the large round chain links representing the fluffy, weightless clouds the rain is falling from...:)

Neat, huh...:D

Once the contest is over, I'll be putting up this lovely piece on Etsy for sale. I'll update my comments with the location and, of course, the listing will tell you everything you need to know about length and sizes.

I hope you enjoy it as much I loved making it! if you'd like to see more detail, just hit the download.
